Family Assistance

The loss or serious illness of a loved one can leave families overwhelmed by grief and unexpected costs, creating a moment of crisis that touches every part of life. For members of service, these hardships often arrive suddenly and without warning, disrupting routines, straining finances, and placing immense emotional pressure on households already carrying the weight of a demanding profession. The MOS Relief Project understands how devastating these experiences can be, and we are committed to standing beside officers and their families during some of the most difficult times they will ever face.
When a spouse, child, parent, or immediate family member becomes seriously ill or passes away, the emotional toll alone can feel impossible to manage. On top of that pain, families must often contend with a surge of unexpected expenses—funeral arrangements, burial or memorial services, medical bills, emergency travel, childcare adjustments, time away from work, and countless other costs that appear as life changes in an instant. These financial burdens can add fear and uncertainty to a moment already marked by grief. The MOS Relief Project exists to help relieve some of that strain so families can focus on healing, supporting one another, and honoring the loved one they have lost.
Our approach to family assistance is grounded in compassion and understanding. We know that no two situations are the same, and we take the time to listen to each family’s story with empathy and respect. Whether the hardship involves an extended hospital stay, end-of-life care, or the sudden passing of a loved one, we evaluate each request carefully and thoughtfully. Our Board—made up of individuals who have served in law enforcement and understand the pressures families face—reviews every case to determine how MOS Relief Project can provide meaningful, immediate relief.
The support we offer may include help with funeral or memorial expenses, assistance with childcare or household bills during extended periods of medical crisis, or financial aid intended to stabilize the family in the early days following a significant loss. These contributions are not meant to solve every challenge, but they are designed to create space—space to grieve without the pressing fear of falling behind financially, space to focus on loved ones instead of invoices, and space to navigate one of life’s hardest moments with dignity and support.
We recognize that officers often feel the responsibility to stay strong for everyone around them, even when they are hurting deeply. Many hesitate to seek help, believing they must carry that burden alone. At MOS Relief Project, we want you to know that you do not have to. Asking for assistance is not a sign of weakness—it is a step toward protecting your family’s wellbeing at a time when they need stability the most. Our organization was created precisely for moments like these, when life becomes heavier than one person can manage, and when compassion and community make all the difference.
The MOS Relief Project is here to help families find their footing after illness or loss, providing relief that honors their grief and acknowledges the sacrifices they make. We believe that supporting the loved ones of officers is an essential part of supporting officers themselves, and we are dedicated to offering comfort, stability, and hope during the times when they need it most.
